LegalEd CPD Supports…

The Attracta O’Regan Ovarian Cancer PhD Scholarship

Attracta passed away on July 2, 2023 aged 55, from ovarian cancer. She was Ultan's wife and mum to Ian, Yvonne, Alecia and Cúán. Mamó to Ríona and Fíadh.

Attracta was a lawyer passionate about learning, human rights, the rule of law and helping others. She was the most positive person you could meet. Her passing was a shock to us; we didn’t expect it, and it has left an unfillable void in our lives.

Attracta made everyone feel special and her light, positivity, love and spirit will live on for an eternity. Her battle with ovarian cancer was brief and brutal. She was only diagnosed in February 2022.

Why Are We Fundraising for This Specific Research?

There is currently no accurate test for the early detection of ovarian cancer. We want to do something about that. No family should have to go through what we have been through and lose their Attracta.  Ovarian cancer is ruthless.

207000+

Women die every year from the disease

These women are more than statistics; they are someone's wife, mom, daughter, sister or friend.

The cruelty of this cancer lies in its stealth; often, it goes undetected until it reaches advanced stages 3 or 4. This drastically reduces the chances of survival. The reality is very stark: 7 in 10 women are diagnosed too late.

We are fundraising for the charity Breakthrough Cancer Research. We are on a mission to deliver an early detection test for ovarian cancer.

We have initiated the Attracta O’Regan PhD Scholarship. This is a comprehensive four-year research project for research into the early detection of ovarian cancer, costing €150,000. All donations go directly to the research.

How Are We Raising €150,000 For The Research?

On September 6–12 our son Ian, myself, and six of Attracta's friends are embarking on a self-funded cycle from Paris to Nice to raise €150,000 for this huge gap in women's health care. All donations will go to fund this research scholarship.

We have run table quizzes, gala dinners, golf classics and pub music nights. To date, we have raised over €75,000.

Please click on the DONATE button to support us, and most importantly help us ensure we don’t lose any more Attracta’s to this cruel disease.
